Drum Corps Season - Cincinnati Tradition!
Guest blogger, Cody Matson, from Cincinnati Tradition shares his thought on the Color Guard uniforms for the 2022 show.
This season I was asked and gladly accepted the position as Artistic director for Cincinnati Tradition Drum and Bugle corps, it was something I had always dreamed of and never thought would be a reality. I found the corps the year before when I was asked to be their color guard caption head. We used G2 to do all of our uniforms and flags for the 2021 season. I met with the team and had to convey ideas from other designers in hopes I would get something that our design team would approve of. G2 totally pulled through and gave us a unique and interesting look for the season.
This year was different though, I had creative control and needed to come up with something stunning for our guard. I spent weeks coming up with different designs and conferencing with our other designers until we finally had an idea to go off of. We wanted our members to look regal, and elegant. We needed them to be cohesive with props and flags and look stunning for every body type. After design #35 I was finally satisfied and ready to look for a company who was going to bring it to life and G2 was the first place I thought of. The costumes from last season were such a good quality that they made it through several programs last year used in fall and winter guards. I emailed Brady and he and Jarred sent me a mock-up of my design that was absolutely perfect for what we needed! Sizing went quickly and the team was extremely helpful in every step of the way with the multitude of questions I had.
G2 was able to work with our schedule and we had uniforms delivered just in time for our first show. After that first round of DCI shows, we got to take some time off where we were able to take our members to do a photo shoot at Ault Park in Cincinnati, they had a blast and received so many comments from the community about how amazing they looked. Now we are set to finish our show and get ready for our next mini tour in August!
